The club house restoration principle is to stay on its current layout, bring everything up to the city building codes, and a bit upgrade to match our new pool and spa . In addition, the project emphasizes the complete waterproof of the upper deck, cross ventilation, brighten and enlarge the inside room, and pre-wired for future possibilities - solar and cable.

Landscaping

Spring landscaping maintenance (tree pruning and removing) is scheduled on the first week of May 2009.

Pool and Spa Project

Our Pool and Spa are currently under re-surface construction. The project is behind the original projected schedule (completed by end of April). The delays were caused by late phase payment, scheduling of the city inspector, and post inspection remedy.

The estimated pool open date is around end of May/early June.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Once open, we will have a beautiful pool and spa for you to enjoy.

The board is actively searching for effective treatment. Our termite treatment company is Rodent Pest Control. Please report to Merit office when you notice termite in your unit.

Swimming Pools Are for People
As you may recall, the July/August newsletter contained an article regarding pools and pets, particularly dogs. Yet, during the month of July, someone was observed bringing their dog to the pool and inviting the dog in for a swim.
We realize the desire for all beings to cool off during the summer heat. However, dogs are NOT allowed in the community pool.
In fact, county health codes forbid pets in community pools. County inspections are random and unannounced, and when the inspectors discover a violation, both the dog owner and the association can receive citations.
If you know of residents who are bringing their dogs into the pool, please advise management. And if your dog needs to cool off, consider giving Fido a dip in your bath tub.

Spotlight on CFL Bulbs
Homeowners are increasingly interested about the new energy-saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. In fact, we hear the following two questions quite often.
Do these CFL bulbs really save as much energy as is claimed?
How do we safely dispose of old, burned-out, mercury-containing CFL bulbs?

Yes, CFL bulbs really do significantly reduce your energy bill! According to www.About.com, an average user can expect to save $36 per bulb when using CFL bulbs over incandescent bulbs. In fact, the extra cost associated with the CFL bulbs is matched by its savings after 500 hours of use. And, while incandescent bulbs generally last 500 hours to 2,000 hours, CFLs are guaranteed for 8,000 hours!
Our “blue bins” do not recycle old, used CFL bulbs. You can recycle them at the IKEA store, located at 2149 Fenton Parkway (off Friars Road) or the San Diego County HHW Facility, located 5161 Convoy Street in San Diego, telephone number (877) 713-2784.
Please note that CFL bulbs are a specialized item, and regular electronics recycling centers will not accept them.

Financial Report
The financial statement and bank reconciliation dated May 31, 2008, reflects $19,432.06 in operating funds, $130,968.00 in unfunded reserves and $451,576.43 in reserve funds, for total assets of $601,976.49. It reflects a year-to-date net equity increase of $10,414.44 and year-to-date reserve funding of $105,357.45, as compared to a budget of $130,968.00. The association is currently 12 months behind in reserve funding.

Community Assisted Party Program (CAPP)
The Community Assisted Party Program (CAPP) is the San Diego Police Department’s program designed to address loud and disruptive parties. Any citizen can report a loud party in progress by calling (619) 531-2000. The police will respond and, if the party is too loud, the police will quiet the party and issue a notice. A second complaint leads to a repeat visit by the police and a monetary fine.

Please Be Considerate of Your Neighbors
Don’t slam doors (not even sliding screen doors).
Try not to bump interior walls or play loud music, as sounds carries into adjoining units.
Turn down your car radio when you drive into the complex.
Close your doors and windows whenever you run your vacuum.
Keep the volume down on your TVs and stereos.

Remember that the garage area is an echo chamber, and all conversations can be overheard (including cell phone conversations). Also remember that phone conversations can be overheard in detail when your windows are open.
